Sherburne, (Sir) Edward, (of no university), created M.A. 2 Dec., 1642, commissary general of the king's artillery in Oxon (s. Edward, of Oxford, clerk of the ordnance); born in London 18 Sept., 1618; on his father's death in 1641 he succeeded him as clerk of the king's ordnance, but "outed by the then house of lords and committed to the black rod," reinstated at the restoration; knighted by Charles II. 6 Jan., 1682-3, in his private bed-chamber at Whitehall; died 4 Nov., 1702, aged 85; brother of the next. Sherburne, Henry (of no university), created M.A. 2 Dec., 1642, comptroller of the ordnance in the army under Ralph, Lord Hopton, drew an exact ichnography of the city of Oxford, chief engineer to the king; killed in a mutiny at Oxford 12 June, 1646, buried in St. Peter-in-the-East; brother of Edward last-named.
