to Gene Krupa, drummer extraordinaire? The name seems too uncommon for it to be a coincidence.

Depts.:

1. Excellent, from ye ed's column in the reader's page and cartoons!

2. Keep those little items which pop up unexpectedly throughout the mag. They help keep one's interest unflagging.

Stories: Ah, at last to the main dish!

1. As to authors and general story quality, keep on doing what you are doing. And how about another Hawk Carse story? G. H. Irwin, intentionally or not, leaves himself wide-open for a sequel. It's unconstitutional to just leave a story dangling like that, that's what it is!

Okay, Marian, we can take it. Your comments on the art work are definitely definite. Yes, Smith has done interiors. We have several on schedule for future issues. The Magarians are Albert and Florence, man and wife, and there's a little Magarian too! So many different artists do work for us, even on series, that we have many conceptions of each. We hope this variety doesn't confuse you. Krupa is related to the drummer, if memory serves us right. If we are wrong, we'll pass on the information when Krupa corrects us from wherever his Marine detachment is stationed.Ed.

VICTORY ISSUE A SUCCESS

Sirs:
Aside from the fact that Ned Hadley and L. Raymond Jones are the worst illustrators that ever appeared (or sneaked) between the covers of any science-fiction magazine I have yet seen, your Victory Issue was a great success.

I have rated your stories below;

1. The Vengeance of Martin Brand.

2. Blitz Against Japan.

3. Robotcycle for Two.

4. The Love Song of Lancelot Biggs.

5. Captain Stinky's Luck.

6. Giants Beyond Pluto.

7. Vengeance on Venus.

8. Convoy in Space.

9. Peace Mission to Planetoid X.

There are but four improvements that you can make on Amazing Stories as follows:

1. Trimmed Edges! If you can't give us them, please explain why.

2. Caption on the title page of each story telling who illustrates that story.

3. A cover or two (I hope more) by the Magarians.

4. The same number of covers by Virgil Finlay.

Incidentally, a while ago you said his covers were not suited to Amazing Stories or Fantastic Adventures. If you'll take a look at the circulation figures of a certain mag he paints covers for
