And while we all exulted in the light which shone upon us, our father Simeon came to us, and he said to us, joyfully, Glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God; for when he was born an infant I took him in my hands in the temple, and, moved by the Holy Spirit, I said, confessing him, For now mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared in the sight of all people, a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.[1] On hearing this, the whole multitude of the saints rejoiced the more.

And after this there came one like a dweller in the wilderness, and was asked by all, Who art thou? To whom, in reply, he said, I am John, the voice and prophet of the Highest, preceding the presence of his coming, to prepare His ways, to give knowledge of salvation to His people for remission of their sins. And when I saw him coming to me, I was impelled by the Holy Spirit, and said, Behold, the Lamb of God, behold, it is He who taketh away the sins of the world. And I baptised Him in the river Jordan, and I saw the Holy Spirit descending upon Him in the form of a dove, and I heard a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. And now I have come before His face, and descended to announce to you that the dayspring itself, the Son of God coming from on high, is about
