After twa day;, Willie ſends her a love-letter, and
this is the copy of the letter.
A LOVE LETTER.
Dear Beſſy,
THIS comes wi’ my ſincere love an’ affection to
you, hoping ye’ll lo’e me ay the better, when
ye road theſe lines: An’ dinna diſappoint me for I’ve
gotten little ſleep this twa nights, thinking an’ dream-
ing about ye: I hope ye’ll lat nae ither man grow
O’er thrang wi’ you, till I ſee you again: whan the
nearer comes wi’ this letter, he ſays he’ll ha’e a kiſs,
ye may gi’e him ane but nae mair: I wis we had that
merry night, fan we’ll get leave to kiſs ane anither
an’ nae body to ſee or hear: It was a pity we didna
marry at martinmas, we wad ha’e gotten the lang
night to kiſs ane anither: My dear love,
There is bat only ane, an' ye are only he,
That lo’es but only he, an’ ye are only ſhe:
Requite me wi’ the ſame, and ſay bat unto me,
I lo’e bat only ane, an’ ye are only he!
Sen’ me an anſwer wi’ the bearer. Nae mair frae

ANSWER.
Dear William,
l Canna write, but I ſent this few lines wi’ a friend
to lat you ken that I am deeply in love wi’ ye, an’
l ſhall na diſappoint ye: Yours is the firſt love lettor
that e’er I gat: Nae mair from your dear an’ affec-
tionate lover till death,BESSY GIBB.
But about eight days after, Willie ſent another
letter to his ſweet-heart, and this is the copy of his
ſecond letter
