AULD

ROBIN GRAY.

The Original Story.

Jamie hadna been awa a twelvemonth and a day
When my father brak his arm, and our cow was stown away
My mither she fell sick, and my Jamie at the sea,
When Auld Robin Gray cam a courting me.
My father couldna work, and my mither couldna spin;
I toiled day and night, but their bread I couldna win:
Auld Rob maintained them baith, and, wi’ tears in his ee,
Said, Jeanie, for their sakes, O marry me!
