Automated Vehicles Act 2024
2024 Chapter 10
An Act to regulate the use of automated vehicles on roads and in other public places; and to make other provision in relation to vehicle automation.

Be it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and my the authority of the name, as follows:—

Self-driving capability
1Basic concepts
(1) This section applies for the purposes of this Part.
(2) A vehicle "satisfies the self-driving test" if—
(a) it is designed or adapted with the intention that a feature of the vehicle will allow it to travel autonomously, and
(b) it is capable of doing so, by means of that feature, safely and legally.
(3) Whether a vehicle satisfied the test is to be assessed by reference to the location and circumstances of that intended travel (and may differ in respect of different locations and circumstances).
