SHIP AND BOAT REPAIR

Surface Ship Repair Activity

Attached to Commander Task Force, Seventy One, is a surface ship repair activity. The mission of this activity is the repair and upkeep of surface vessels.

Buildings: No prefabricated structures are used for administration or operation of this activity.

This activity is equipped with the following: 1 Portable boiler, 25 H.P. to supply steam to ships under repair when the ship's own boilers are secured; 1 Diesel generator, 115 volt, 65 KW, for ship's lighting; 1 Diesel air compressor, 350 cu. ft. per minute capacity. The facilities of local ship repair organisation are available for U.S. Navy use.

By use of the Western Australian Government Shop and employees and civilian contractors, all work on ships up to 3,000 tons can be handled ― steam turbine, reciprocator engine and diesel. Larger vessels can also be handled when dry docking is required.

Lifting Power 2000 tons

Marine Railway at North Slipway. (This marine railway is out of commission at the present time. If required, it could be made available to the U.S. Navy for operational use.) Extreme Length 660 feet, Length of Cradle 165 feet, Size Vessel - Length 150 feet, Low Water Mark - Draft Forward 9'9", Low Water Mark - Draft Aft 17'6", Lifting Power 850 tons.
