for this area. Approximately 100 tons of stores are now being unpacked, identified and binned. The activities to whom supplies are furnished are as follows: (a) Service Force, Subordinate Command, Seventh Fleet, and subsidiary departments, including all small craft, ARD-10, and Navy Base EIGHT-ONE. (b) Task Force, Seventy-One, including Head-quarters Units, Fleet Air Wing TEN, and tenders, AS 18 (ORION) with attached submarines, AS 13 (GRIFFIN) with attached submarines, Submarine Repair Unit, Navy 137, with attached submarines, and all miscellaneous small craft and auxiliaries. (c) Armed Guard Units (transient); (d) War Shipping Administration vessels (as required). (e) Transient U.S. Naval vessels; (f) Allied Military Services (British, Australian and Netherlands) as required.
The administrative offices of the Naval Supply Depot occupy 8,354 sq. ft. of space on the first floor of Dalgety's Building, a brick structure. The total area of open storage space now in use comprises 3.3/4 acres. Structures used for ordinary general storage of Depot stocks consist of 16 warehouses, aggregating 343,292 sq. ft. The detail of each building is at the end of the report on this Activity. The total of refrigerated space now in use consists of 35,130 cu. ft., on a rental basis from local commercial firms. This can be increased or decreased, as required by amount of stocks carried. The present storage space now in use by this Depot is overextended, due to inability to secure additional space through Commonwealth authorities and to the prohibition on new construction. Present stocks of GSK are sufficient to supply the forces now being served, with a 25% reserve. Stocks of provisions, clothing and small stores, and ship's store stocks are little more than adequate. Personnel now on duty at this Depot are as follows: 21 officers, 139 enlisted men and 102 civilians. REMARKS: During the months of May, June and July 1944, this Depot handled outgoing shipments aggregating 6,887,510 pounds, and approximately 22,200,000 pounds of incoming freight.
