Pope Innocent XII. was so much satisfied with his conduct in the government of this seminary, that he contributed the sum of two thousand Roman crowns yearly towards i t s maintenance; and Clement XI. had such a high opinion o f Moor, that h e would have placed his nephew under his tuition, had h e not been prevented, a s was supposed, b y the persuasion o f the Jesuits. On the death o f James II. Dr. Moor was invited t o France, and such was his reputation there, that h e was made twice rector o f the university o f Paris, and principal o f the col lege o f Navarre, and was appointed regius professor o f philosophy, Greek, and Hebrew. - He joined with Dr. John Farrely i n the purchase o f a house contiguous t o the Irish college, for the reception o f such poor students a s might come from Ireland t o study there. He was blind for several years prior t o his decease, and was obliged t o keep a person t o read t o him, who embezzled many hundred volumes o f his library; the remainder o f which Dr. Moor bequeathed t o the Irish college. He died i n his eighty-fifth year, a t his apartments i n the college o f Navarre, 22nd o f August, 1726, and was buried i n the vault under the chapel o f the Irish college. GARNET, EARL OF MORNINGTON, A celebrated glee composer; f o r several o f his com positions h e gained the prizes given b y the Glee Club. His most popular production i s , “Here i n cool Grot,” which obtained the prize medal. He was born July 19th, 1735. Died May 22nd, 1784. He was also a n eminent performer o n the violin; and i t i s said, the service i n Dublin cathedral commences every morning with a n anthem o f his composition.
