Tuffles are found in various parts of England, always under ground. They are frequently fought for by dogs in Hampshire, Wiltshire, and Kent. They are esteemed a dainty in soups, and are sold at Coventgarden market at a considerable price. The outside is curiously corrugated and black.

This Truffle differs from the last in having a lighter-coloured and smoother surface, which is always of a tawny white. As an article of food, its qualities are much the same as those of the preceding.
