Z.OPATA, or Safata, a kind of Feaft or Ceremony held in Italy, in the Courts of certain Princes, on St. Ni- cholas's Day, wherein People hide Prefents in the Shoes or Slippers of thofe they would do honour to, in fuch manner as may furprize 'em the Morrow when they come to drefs.
It is done in Imitation of the Practice of St. Nicholas,who ufed in the Night-time to throw Purfes of Money in at Windows, to marry poor Maids withal.
