BATH, YOUNG ROMAN'S, Charles
Gleyre, Charles S. Smith, New York; canvas,
H. 3 ft. × 2 ft. A beautiful female slave,
partly draped, lifts a babe into an alabaster
font, in a Roman impluvium, on the opposite
side of which, nearly in profile, stands a nude
maiden, resting her hands on the rim of the
basin, and contemplating the young Roman
