BORZONE, LUCIANO, born in Genoa in
1590, died there in 1645. Genoese school;
pupil of his uncle Filippo Bertolotto and of
Cesare Corte. Painted some historical pictures,
but excelled in portraits. Killed by a
fall from a scaffolding in l'Annunziata,
Genoa, where he was occupied in painting
a Nativity. His three sons, Gio. Battista
(died 1657), Carlo (died 1657), and Francesco
Maria (born 1626, died 1679), were all
painters. Francesco M. went to France at
invitation of Louis XIV. and painted frescos
in the Louvre and at Vincennes. Returned
to Genoa the year of his death.—Lanzi,

of Van Bree; Knight of the Order of the
