The work of the Educational Department of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union is based on a conviction that the aims and aspirations of the workers can be realized only through their own efforts in the economic and educational fields. While organization gives them power, education gives them the ability to use that power intelligently and effectively.

The education offered is planned to accomplish this aim. While some of it is intended to satisfy the intellectual and the emotional needs of workers, the main emphasis is laid on what meets their practical needs. The problems of the labor movement are analyzed and clarified by the study of general principles underlying them. In this way it is possible to train fresh energy, new experience and power for the service of the International and of the entire Labor Movement of America, and to help our members to achieve their purposes with the ultimate goal of living a full, rich and happy life.
