Ambler, Richard, son of jolm Aniljler, sheriti' of \'iirksliire. l-",nL;hin(h in 1721. and Elizabeth Bickadike. his wife. Idie son came to X'irginia in^ the early i)art of the eighteeiuh century and settled at Vorktown. He married Elizabeth, daughter of l^dward jaquclin, and succeeded to the ja(|ueliii otates at James- town. He w^as also largely engaged as a mcr- ch.ant at Yorktown, at which place he died in 1766. leaving three sons — John, i^dward and Taquelin.
Anderson, Rev. Charles, was minister for twenty-four years of Westover parish, Charles City county. Mis tombstone at \\'estover states that he died .April 7, 1718. He left a son Charles, and daughters — Frances, wdio married Thomas I'inkard : Elizabeth, who married John Stith ; Charlotte, who married Henry Taylor, and Jane, who married Ellyson Armistead.

Anderson, David, a native of Scotland, was born in 17^, came to Petersburg, \'a.. was long a member of the Common Hall of the town, and chamberlain of the same. He founded the Anderson Seminary for the cor- poration of Petersburg. He died June 18, 1812.

Anderson, Richard, burgess for Louisa cianit}- in 1765, 1766-1768, 1769. 1769-1772 and 1772-1774. lie was colonel of the county militia, and in 1780 married Catherine Fox.
Anderson, Robert, burgess for Fouisa ci'Unty in 1752-1755, in the place of Thomas Walker, who accejjted the office of coroner, lie was son of Robert Anderson, of "(iold Mine," an(' Mary Overton, his wife, was b(.)rn Jan. i, 1712, and died 1792. He was grandfather of Robert Anderson, who com- manded at l'"ort ."^umter in 1861.
Anderson, William, was a merchant of Accomac c()unty, and served as burgess at the assembly of 1695-1696. His eldest daughter, Naomi, married Francis ]\Iakemie, the founder 0+ the Presbyterian church in .America. His will was i)ro\ed Oct. 4, 1698. He was proba- bly fr(jm the county of Sussex, England, as he left mone}- due him there to his sister, Com- fort Scott.
Andrews, Rev. Robert, was the son of .Moses Andrews, of Pennsylvania, and great- graiKlson of John .Andrews, who emigrated in 1654 from Feicestershire, I'jigland, to Mary- land. 1 le was educated at the College of Phil- adelphia, and was tutor for several years in tlic family of Mann Page, oi "Rosewell," Va., and in 1772 went to England for ordination; ])rofessor of moral philosophy in William and .Mar_\- College, 1779: transferred to the mathe- matical chair in 1784; in 1781 was private secretary of Gen. Nelson; in 1788 represented Williamsburg in the state convention of 1788, and in 1798 was a member of the legislature and voted against the celebrated resolutions
