C.-Omitting many other authorities, which I could adduce from other Fathers and the ecclesiastical historians of this century, I shall here close the list with St. Leo the Great.—“ Strengthen your connections with the holy Angels; enter into the city of God, of which the dwelling is promised to us; unite yourselves to the Patriarchs, Prophets, Apostles, and Martyrs. Rejoice, where they rejoice. Let these wishes be the objects of your desires; and by a holy emulation sue for their suffrages. For with whom you shall communicate in prayer, with them shall you enjoy honour.” Serm. v. in Epiphan.
