deanery was vacant, but whether by his death or re- moval does not appear. Benjamin Heydon, S.T.P., made dean by patent 26th
Nov. 1602, died in 1607. His will, dated 9th Oct. 16035
was proved 8th June 1608. Richard Meredith, S.T.B., was installed 21st Nov.
1607. Died 15th Aug. 1621, and was buried in the
cathedral '-^ Ralph Barlow, S.T.P., was installed in September
1 62 1. He died at Wells, and was buried in the
cathedral 27 th July 1631. George Warburton, S.T.P., dean of Gloucester, was
collated 20th Aug. 1631^2, jje died in December
1 641. Walter Raleigh, S.T.P., was presented 12th Jan.
1 641. He died loth Oct. 1646, and was buried in
the cathedral. His will is dated and was proved in
1646.
The dignity vacant fourteen years^. Robert Creighton, S.T.P., was appointed by patent
29th June 1660, and admitted 18th July -'5; and in
1670 was made bishop of this see. Ralph Bathurst, M.D., was appointed by the King
22nd June-*, and installed 28th June 1670. Ob. 14th
June 1704. William Grahme was nominated by the Queen 6th
July25 1704, elected 19th July^e^ and installed 28th
July. He died 4th Feb. 1711-12, Matthew Brailsford was nominated by the Queen
1 8th April 17 13, vice William Grahme'^?, He died
13th Dec. 1733. Isaac Maddox, D.D., 8th Jan. 1733-4'-*^. Made
bishop of St. Asaph in 1736, and resigned this deanery.
