Walter Philips, tl last prior of Roche sA r, made a surrender of his convent into the King's hands in March 1540, who (ejecting the monk-) erected a new society in this church, consisting of a dean and six prebendaries, and constituted the said Walter Philips the first dean. He died in 1570.
