The royal conge d'elire, vice bishop Haluc- ton, issued 26th Nov. 1324^^, in conformity with which William Ayreminne, a canon of York, was chosen 7th Jan. 1324—5; he obtained the royal assent 17th Jan.^^, was confirmed by the archbishop of York I ith Feb., and received the temporalities on the 19th of the same month ; notwithstanding which, the Pope nullified the election, and by virtue of his pontifical power appointed 1325 John de Rosse, LL.D.^7j archdeacon of Salop. The i8Edw. II. King restored the temporalities to the new bishop 22nd June 1325^^. He made his profession of obe- dience to the archbishop 30th Aug.^^ 1326, and died in 1332. The royal license to elect a bishop in the room of John de Rosse issued nth May 1332^^0^ in pursuance of which 1332 John de Kirkeby, prior of Carlisle, was elected, and 6 Edw. III. obtained the royal assent to his election 1 8th May 1332^1. He received the temporalities 9th July fol- lowing^-, and was consecrated in the church of South Barton near Beverley, on the 19th of the same nionth^^. He died in 1353. The prior and convent of Carlisle received the royal license to elect a bishop instead of John de Kirkeby 3rd Dec. 1352^^ ; pursuant to which John de Horncastle, prior of Carlisle^ was elected, and received the royal assent loth Jan. 1352—3^^; he was confirmed by the archbishop on the 1 2th of the same month ^^^, and the temporalities were restored to ^* Annal.
