He was deposed and imprisoned in Bamborough castle in 750'^^ by king Eadberht, and resigned his office in 7 80 '28 J or rather he delegated his powers to Hig- bald, who became his successor. He died four years afterwards ■-^. 780 HiGBALD, the coadjutor of Cynuulf, succeeded in 780^^^, and was consecrated in 781-^1. He died 25th May 802 3^ 802 Ecgberht33 was consecrated 12th June 802-^'^; if he sat eighteen years, as Turgot affirms 3^, he must have died in 821 ; but Florence of Worcester, the only one who mentions his death, places it in 8 1 9, and the con- secration of his successor in the same year. 819 Heathored'^^.
