Robert Waldby is said to have been bishop here. i-^ Upon the death of John Dunkan in 1380, the Scotch ap- pear to have rejected the bishops elected under the influence of the crown of England, and to have chosen their own prelates, whom they called bishops of Sodor, while those appointed by the English were styled bishops of Man. The following is a list of the bishops of Sodor from that time to the revolution in 1688, when the prelates of this see were deprived : John was bishop in the reign of king Robert II with the other bishops of Scotland. "Johannes episcopus Sodor- ensis" was named in a com- mission, dated 14th July 1388, to treat with Godifrido fiho Joannnes de Yle nuper domini insularum Scotiae^ and in another commission to treat with Donaldo filio Johannis de Yle, et Johanne fratre ejusdem Donaldi^. Michael witnessed a grant aa bishop of Sodor in 1409. Angusius or Angus witnessed a grant as bishop of Sodor in 1427, and was j)re.sent in the Scotch parliament 25th Nov. 1476. As there are a- bout 50 years between the date of the charter in 1427 and that of the sitting of parliament in 1476, it is probable that there were two bishops of the name of An- gubius. Kobert held this see in 1492. » Rot Scot. 12 Ric. IT. John held the see in 1507 ; he died in 1509. George Hepburn succeeded in 15 10.
