UNIVERSITY COLLEGE. 537 John Rokysburgh or Rokesborough succeeded in the beginning of the year 1488. He died 23rd Sept. 1509, and was buried in St. Mary's church. Ralph Hamsterley, M.A., fellow of Merton college, was elected master of this college 3rd Oct. 1509. He died 2nd Aug. 15 18, and was buried in the church be- longing to Merton college. Leonard Hutchinson, M.A., was elected i6th Sept. 15 1 8. He died at Crowlton in Northamptonshire, (of which he was rector,) in the beginning of Oct. 1554, and was buried in the churchyard there. John Crayford, S.T.P., was elected 13th Sept. 1546, (on the resignation of his predecessor,) and died in 1547- Richard Salveyn, M.A., was elected ist Sept. 1547, and resigned 29th Oct. 1551. George Ellison, M.A., was elected and confirmed 30th Nov. 155 I. Anthony Salveyn, S.T.B., was elected ist June 1557. James Dugdale, M.A., succeeded loth Dec. 1558. Deprived in 1561. Thomas Caids or Key, M.A., late fellow of All Souls college, was substituted 17th Nov. 1561. He was bu- ried 20th May 1572, in the church of St. Peter-in- the-East, Oxford. William James, S.T.B., and reader of divinity in Mag- dalen college^ was elected to this mastership 1 2th Juno 1572, and resigned 14th Sept. 1584. Anthony Gate, M.A., was elected 15th Sept. 1584, and died in Aug. T597. George Ahbot, S.T.P., fellow of Balliol college, was elected to this mastership 6th Sept. 1597. He became at length archbishop of Canterbury. John Bancroft, S.T.P., late of Christ Churchy suc- ceeded 2nd March 1609—10, and resigned 23rd Aug. 1632. Bishop of Oxford in that year.
