The arms of this college are thus blazoned : Sable, three roses argent ; in a chief parted per pale, an ad- ditament out of the arms of England, viz., azure, a fleur de lys or, and gules, a lion passant gardant of the same. QUEENS' COLLEGE Was founded by Margaret, wife of king Henry the Sixth; the first stone was laid the 15th of April in 1449^". The first charter granted by Henry VI ^'^, by which he founded a college to be called St. Bernards and St. Margaret's college, was cancelled ; and an- other, granted by Edward IV, enabled his queen to augment the revenues of the college. It was hence- forth called Queens' College. PRESIDENTS or MASTERS. Andrew Doket was appointed by the foundress in I4484W.
