A little dog begging for alms,
While passing through this country,
Bridge one,—you get a plum;
Bridge two,—you get eggs;
Bridge three,—you get nuts;
Bridge four,—you get a slap;[1]
Bridge five,—you get a syringe;
Bridge six,—you get cherries;
Bridge seven,—you get a plate;
Bridge eight,—you get oysters;
Bridge nine,—you get beef.

While passing through the kitchen
Of Mr. Portefarine,
I heard that he was roasting
Three dozen little hens.
I asked whom they were for,
And was told they were for my father.
My father made me taste them,
I found them too salty.
