It happened in the autumn of the year 1799, that I found myself obliged to make a journey of considerable length, for which I had completed the necessary arrangements, and packed my sac de nuit, when my wife, on account of an extraordinary dream, begged most earnestly that I would give up my intention and stay at home. Having important business on hand, and being now in great haste, I could not patiently bear with her obstinate resistance, but answered at last so harshly, that she burst into tears.
