Columbia. He died about 1907 in Columbus, Ohio. Bingham, George Hutchins, lawyer, jurist, was born Aug. 19, 1864, in Littleton, N.H. In 1883 he graduated from St. Johnsbury academy; in 1887 from Dartmouth college; and in 1891 from Harvard law school. In 1891 he began the practice of law at Littleton, removing in 1898 to Manchester, N.H. Since 1902 he has been associate justice of the supreme court of New Hampshire. Bingham, Harry, lawyer, statesman, author, was born March 30, 1821, in Concord, Vt. He graduated in 1843 from Dartmouth college; and since 1846 has been engaged in the practice of law. In 1862-68, 1871-79 and also in 1881-1889 and 1891 he was a member of the New Hampshire house of representatives from Littletown; and in 1883-87 was a tice

member of the state senate. In 1876 he was a member of the constitutional convention.

He was

a delegate to the democratic nationconventions of 1868, 1872, 1880, 1884 and 1892; and in all these conventions he was a member of the committee on resolutions. He is the author of a number of works on legal, biographical and general topics; and of various addresses and articles on important subal

jects.

Bingham, Henry Harrison, lawyer, congressman, was born Dec. 4, 1841, in Philadelphia, Pa. He entered the union army as a lieutenant in the one hundred and fortieth regiment P°nnsylvania volunteers; was wounded at Gettysburg in 1863, at Spottsylvania in 1864, and at Farmville in 1865; and was mustered out of service in 1866 as brevet brigadier-general of volunteers.

He was

appointed postmaster of Philadelphia in 1867; was delegate at large to the republican national convention at Philadelphia in 1872; and also a delegate in 1876, 1884, 1888, 1892 and in 1896. In 1879-1911 he was a representative from Pennsylvania in the fortysixth to the sixty-first congresses as a republican.

Bingham, Hiram, clergyman, missionary, was bom in 1789 in Bennington, Vt. In 1819 he was ordained a minister; and for twenty years was a missionary in the Sandwich islands.

gical seminary. Since 1856 he has been in the service of the American board of commissioners for foreign missions; in 1857 began missionary work in the Gilbert islands; and prepared the Christian literature for the Gil-

bertese. He is now engaged in preparing a Gilbertese Commentary on the New Testament. He is the author of Story of the Morning Star; Gilbertese Bible; Gilbertese Bible Dictionary; Gilbertese Hymn and Tune Book; Gilbertese Commentary on Matthew; and Gilbertese English Dictionary. Bingham, Jennie M., litterateur, author, was born March 16, 1859, in Fulton, N.Y. She is the author of Annals of the Round Table; and All Glorious Within. Bingham, Joel Foote, educator, clergyman, author, was born Oct. 11, 1827, in Andover, Conn. He is the author of Mediteval Myth, Melody and Mirth; and Historic Cameos of Gaul, Celt and Saracen. Bingham, John Armor, lawyer, diplomat,

congressman, was born in 1815 in Pennsylvania. In 1855-73 he was a representative from Ohio to the thirty-fourth to the fortysecond congresses. He was the prosecutor of the murderers of President Lincoln. He died

Bingham, Judson David, soldier, was born May 16, 1831, in Massena Springs, N.Y. He took part in the suppression of John Brown's raid at Harper's Ferry in 1859. In 1865 he

was brevetted brifradier-general for faithful and meritorious services during the civil war. After the civil war he was successively chief quartermaster

of the department of the assistant quartermaster-general at Washington, and as chief quartermaster with* the rank of lieutenant-colonel at the headquarters of the division of the Pacific and the department of the Missouri; and from 1886 at Chicago, as chief quartermaster of the division of the Missouri. He retired from the army in 1893. Bingham, Kinsley S., lawyer, jurist, congressman, United States senator, governor, was bom Dec. 16, 1808, in Camillus, N.Y. He was a member of the Michigan state legislature in 1835-40, and was three years speaker. In 1847-51 he was a representative from Michigan to the thirtieth and thirty-first congresses; and in 1855-59 he was the tenth governor of Michigan. He was postmaster, supervisor, prosecuting attorney, judge of probate and brigadier-general of militia. In 1859-65 he was United States senator. He died Oct. 5, 1861, in Oak Grove, Mich. Bingham, Theodore Alfred, soldier, was born May 14, 1858, in Andover, Conn. In 1879 he became second lieutenant of engineers; and in 1904 was promoted brigadiergeneral in the United States army. lakes,

Bingham, Thomas, soldier, was born in Pennsylvania. In 1850 he graduated from the United States military academy; and in 1851 became second lieutenant in the second United States dragoons. He was on duty in various stations; and resigned in 1854. He died in 1872.

Bingham, William, congressman. United States senator, was born in 1751 in Philadelphia, Pa. He was agent for this country at Martinique during the revolution. In 178788 he was a delegate from Pennsylvania
