HERRINGSHAW'S LIBRARY OF AMERICAN BIOGRAPHY. Blodgett, Coustantine, clergyman, theolowas born Nov. 17, 1803, in Eandolph, Vt. He was pastor of the congregational church at Pawtucket, E.I. He died Dec. 29, 1879, in Pawtucket, R.I. Blodgett, Foster, soldier, statesman, was born Jan. 15, 1826, in Augusta, Ga. He became mayor of Augusta in 1859; and was re-elected in 1860. During the civil war he was captain of the Blodgett artillery from Augusta. After the- civil war he joined the repuuiican party; and was appointed postmaster of Augusta in 1865, but was removed from that office in 1868 and reinstated in 1869. In 1867 he was made president of the L'nion republican club of Augusta, and during the same year he was again chosen mayor. He was a delegate to the constitutional convention of 1867; and in 1870 claimed to have been chosen United States senator, from Georgia; but failed to secure fiis seat. He died Nov. 13, 1877, in Atlanta, Ga, Blodgett, Isaac N., lawyer, state senator, jurist, was bom March 6, 1838, in Canaan, N.H. In 1871, 1873-74 and 1878 he was a member of the New Hampshire state legislature; and was state senator in 1879-80. In 1876 and 1889 he was a member of the constitutional convention. In 1880-98 he was an associate justice; and in 1898-1902 he was chief justice of the supreme court of New Hampshire. He died in 1905 in Franklin

Blodgett, John Taggard, lawyer, legislator, jurist, was born May 16, 1869, in Belmont, Mass. He grraduated from Brown university; and in 1883 was admitted to the Rhode Island bar. In 1890 he was United States commissioner for the district of Rhode Island; and in 1893 was chief supervisor of elections for the same district. In 1895-1900 he was a member and chairman of the board of canvassers and registration of Providence, R.I. In 1898-1900 he served as a member of the Rhode Island state legislature. Since 1900 he has been an associate justice of the state supreme court of Rhode Island. Blodgett, Henry Williams, lawyer, state senator, jurist, was bom July 31, 1821, in Amherst, Mass. In 1845 he located at Waukegan in the practice of his profession. He was elected to the legislature of Hlinois in 1852; to the state senate in 1858; and was judge of the United States court for the northern district of Illinois in 1870-92. Blodgett, Mabel Louise Fuller, litterateur, author, was born April 8, 1869, in Bangor, Maine. She is the author of The Aspen Shade; In Poppy Land; Fairy Tales; At The Queen's Mercy; and The Giant's Ruby. Blodgett, Hufus, banker, United States senator, was born Oct. 9, 1834, in Dorchester, N.H. He moved to New Jersey in 1866 and engaged in the railroad business. He is president of the First national bank of Long Branch; and was a member of the New Jer-

sey state legislature. He was a delegate to the democratic national convention at Cincinnati in 1880. In 1887-93 he was United States senator. Blodgett, Wells H., soldier, lawyer, statesman, was born Jan. 39, 1839, in Du Page county. 111. He served throughout the civil war; and was commissioned colonel. After the civil war he began the practice of law in Warrensburg, Mo.; and was elected to the legislature from Johnson county. In 1868-72 he was a, state senator. Since 1889 he has been general solicitor of the Wabash railroad. Bloede, Gertrude, author, .poet, was bom Aug. 10, 1845, in Dresden, Saxony. She was a poet and novelist of Brooklyn who wrote under the pseudonym of Stuart Sterne. She was the author of Angelo; Giogio and Other

Lives, a novel. She died in 1905 in Islana, N. Y. Bloede, Mrs. Marie, author, poet, was born in 1821. Her poems and articles, both in English and German, attracted attention. "Her husband, as the editor of the New Yorker Demokrat, a daily republican paper, received assistance from her literary labors. She died Mrch 12, 1870, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Blood, Henry Ames, poet, was bom June 7, 1838, in Temple, N.H. He was the author of How Much I Loved Thee, a drama in verse; and History of Temple, N.H. He died in Washington, D.C.
