was born in Orange county, N.Y. He was a member of the New York assembly in 1820. In 1821-23 he was a representative from New York to the seventh congress. He died in

Borland, Solon, soldier, diplomat. United States senator, governor, was born in Virginia. He served in the war with Mexico as a volunteer; and was a. presidential elector in 1844. In 1848-53 he was United States senator from Arkansas; and in 1853 he was territorial governor of New Mexico. He was appointed minister to Central America. He took part in the civil war of 1861 as a brigadier-general; and before the state had seceded raised troops and captured Fort Smith. He died Jan. 31, 1864, in Texas. Borland, William P., congressman. In 190911 he was a representative from Missouri to the sixty-first congress. Borowski, Felix, educator, lecturer, composer, was born March 10, 1872, in England. He is director of the department of composition and lecturer upon musical history in a musical college of Chicago, III. He is the composer of piano, violin and orchestra music; and has written a book of songs. Borst, Albert W., organist, compose)^, was born July 22, 1841, in Liverpool, England. He is prominent in the musical affairs of Philadelphia, Pa. He is composer of Cantatos John Gilpin; and The Pilgrim; and has composed church music; and an operetta. Borst, Peter I., congressman, was born in Middleburg, N.Y. In 1829-31 he was a representative from New York to the twentyfirst congress. He died Nov. 14, 1848, in Middleburg, N.Y. Bosler, James Williamson, merchant, philanthropist, was born April 4, 1833, in Hoguestown. Pa. He was the organizer and president of the Palo Blanco cattle company of New Mexico. The election of President Garfield vas due to him as much as to any other man in the United States, the financial part of that campaign being organized by him when it had begun to droop. The handsome James W. Bosler memorial building of i^ickinson college perpetuates his name.

Since 1876 he has been director of the Dudley conservatory at Albany, N.Y. He is the author of Declinations of Fixed otars. Bossier, r-ierre Evariste, state senator, congressman. After serving ten years in the state, senate in 1843-4 i he was a representative to the twenty-eighth congress. He died April 24, 1844, in Washington, D.C. Boston, Charles Anderson, lawyer, author, was born Aug. 31, 1863, in Baltimore, Md. In 18S6 he began the practice of law in Maryland. He is the author of articles on Medical Laws and Privileged Communications. in

Boston, L. napoleon, physician, lecturer, author, was born March 18, 1871, in Town Hill, Pa. He is a successful physician and lecturer of Philadelphia, Pa. He is the author of Textbook of Clinical Diagnosis of Laboratory Methods; and scores of Monographs.
