Bristol, George Prentiss, educator, author, was born June 21, 1856, in Clinton, N.Y. Since 1898 he has been professor of Greek in Cornell university of Ithaca, N.Y. He is the author of The Teaching of Greek in Secondary Schools. Bristol, John Bunyan, landscape painter, author, was born March 14, 1824, in Hillsdale, N.Y. He was a delegate to the republican national convention of 1864; was a representative in the state legislature in 1865; and was a state senator in 1866-70. died March 7, 1836, in New Haven. Bristow, Benjamin H., soldier, lawyer, cabinet officer, was born June 20, 1833, in Elkton, Ky. In 1861 he entered the union army as lieutenant -colonel in the twenty-fifth regiment Kentucky infantry; and subsequently commanded the eighth Kentucky cavalry. While serving in the field he was elected to the Kentucky state senate for four years in 1866 was appointed United States district attorney for the district of Kentucky and in 1870 was appointed solicitor-general of the United States. In 1874-76 he was secretary of the treasury. He died June 33, 1896, in

In 1831 and 1833 he was elected to the Kentucky state legislature; in 1846 to the state senate; and in 1849 was a member of the state constitutional convention.
