He was the author of Fifty Years in the Church of Rome; and other works. Chinn, Joseph W., congressman, was born in Nuttsville, Va. In 1831-35 he was a representative from Virginia to the twenty-second and twenty-third congresses. He died Dec. 5, 1840, in Richmond, Va. Chinn, Thomas W., congressman, was born in Kentucky. Chipman, Charles Phillips, litterateur, author, was born Jan. 10, 1878, in New Kingston, R.I. He is the author of An Aerial Runaway; The Last Cruise of the Electra; and Through the Unknown Isle; and Two Boys and a Dog. Chipman, Dewitt C, lawyer, legislator, author, was born Sept. 21, 1824, in Middleboro, N.Y. He was educated at the Middlebury academy; at Bethany academy; and at the National law school of Balstop Spa, N.Y. He has been school trustee and mayor of Noblesville, Ind.; and served as a member of the Indiana state legislature.

and Hancock counties. He has been
collector of internal revenue for the eleventh district of Indiana and was receiver of commutation money for the same district. He has also attained success as an attorney at law and patent solicitor of Anderson, Ind. He is the
author of Beyond the Verge; Halycon Isle; and Angels Visit. Chipman, Daniel, lawyer, congressman, author, was born Oct. 22, 1765, in Salisbury, Conn. He was for many years in the Connecticut state legislature; and was frequently speaker of the house. He was a member of the last state constitutional convention. In 1815-17 he was a representative to the fourteenth congress. He was the first reporter of the decisions of the supreme court. He was the author of Law Contracts for the Sale of Specific Articles. He died April 23, 1850, in Ripton, Vt.
Chipman, Henry, lawyer, jurist, was born 1785 in Vermont. He was appointed a judge of the United States for the territory of Michigan; and in 1837-32 was an associate justice of the supreme court of that territory. He died on April 37, 1867, in Detroit, in
Mich.

In 1882-90 he was judge of the Madison circuit court of Indiana; and out of over twelve hundred cases tried and decided, only two were reversed by the supreme court.
