Claggett, William H., lawyer, legislator, congressman, was born Sept. 21, 1838, in Marlborough, Md. He was a member of the legislature of iMevada in 1862, 1863 and 1865. In 1871-73 he was a territorial delegate from Montana to the forty-second congress. He died Aug. 4, 1901, in Spokane, Wash.

In 1813 he was made brigadier-general United States volunteers; and commanded in the engagment with the Creek Indians at the Holy Ground in December, 1813. He then settled in Mississippi; and in 1815 became legislative councilor, later presiding over the deliberations of the legislature. He died in February, 1815, in Natchez, legislator,

He served many years in the Virginia state legislature; and was also a member of the executive council. In 183537 he was a representative from Virginia to the nineteenth to the twenty-fourth congresses, j-ie was the author of Notes on the War in the South. He died Aug. 15, 1859, in
