In 1894-98 and since 1902 he has been judge of the probate court for Holt county, Mo. Allaire, Anthony J., soldier, was born Feb.. 17, 1829, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served in the civil war; and rose to the rank of
brigadier-general. In 1867 he was appointed police captain of the twenty-flrst precinct of New York City. Allan, Chilton, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born April 6, 1786, in Albemarle county, Va. He settled in Kentucky as a wheelwright; educated himself for the legal profession; from Clark county was elected in 1811 to the legislature of Kentucky, and was re-elected for several terms,
In 1831-37 he was a representative from Kentucky state to the twenty-second, twenty-third and twenty-fourth congresses. In

ternal improvement; and in 1842 was again returned to the state legislature. He died Sept. 3, 1858, in Winchester, Ky. Allan, John, soldier, patriot, was born Jan. 13, 1746, in Scotland. In 1770-76 he was a member of the provincial assembly. When the American colonies engaged in the struggle for independence he gave them active and efficient aid, securing the alliance of the Indian tribes of that region. Congress nominated him superintendent of the eastern Indians, and gave him a colonel's commission in January, 1777; and with his Indians he protected the otherwise exposed line of the northeastern frontier. The Nova Scotia authorities offered a price for his apprehension, while his house was burned and his wife thrown into prison. In 1784 Colonel Allan settled in Maine. The state government of Massachusetts 1792 in granted him a tract of twenty-two thousand acres, on which the town of Whiting now stands; and in 1801 congress gave him two thousand acres in Ohio in compensation for the losses he sustained for the patriot cause. He died Feb. 7, 1805, in Lubec, Maine. Allan, John, antiquarian, was born Feb. 26, 1777, in Scotland. He made a valuable and unique collection of pictures, books, autographs, and rare and curious articles. His collection was sold at auction a short time after his death, and the total receipts

She died about 1900 in New York City. Allen, Addison, lawyer, lecturer, author, was born Feb. 28, 1865, in New York City, and is a lineal descendant of General Ethan Allen. In 1872-75 he attended Leonard academy; in 1875-79 attended the Essex county grammar school of New Jersey; in 1879-84 studied in the New York school of Petersburg, Va.
