His son, Daniel Franklin Davis, was governor of Maine. Davis, Nathan Smith, physician, author, was born Jan. 9, 1817, in Chenango, N.Y. He was dean of the Northwestern university of Chicago, 111. In 1898-99 he was a member of the committee to investigate the public school system of Providence, R.T. He is a fellow of the American association for the advancement of science. Davis, Nelson Henry, soldier, was born Sept. 20, 1831, in Oxford, Mass. He served in the war with Mexico; and received the brevet of brigadier-general for his services in the civil war; and retired in 1885! He died May 15, 1890, in New York City.

Davis, Norah, journalist, author, was bom Oct. 20, 1878, in Huntsville, Ala. She was deputy clerk of the United States district court for the northern district of Alabama. She is the author of The Northerner; and
The World's Warrant. Davis, Oscar King, journalist, author, was born Jan. 13, 1866, in Baldwinsville, N.Y. He is a. noted war correspondent on the staff of the New York Sun. In 1896-99 he was pastor of the congregational church at Springfield, Vt.; and in 1899-1904 pastor of the Central congregational church at Newtonville, Mass.; and since 1904 has been pastor of the south congregational church at New Britain, Conn. He is the author of Dartmouth Lyrics; A Vocabulary of New Testament Words; John Robinson; the Pilgrim Pastor; and other works. Davis, Mrs. Paulina, lecturer, reformer, was born Aug. 7, 1813, in Bloomfleld, N.Y. For thirty-five years she labored zealously to promote the rights of women; established The Una, the first woman-suffrage paper; wrote a history of woman-suffrage reform; and gave lectures in the principal cities of the United States. She died Aug. 24, 1876, in Providence, R.I. Davis, Perry, manufacturer, clergyman, was born July 7, 1891, in Dartmouth, Mass. In 1838 he discovered a compound which was named pain killer; and three years later he built a factory in Falls River, Mass., where this compound was made. He was a licensed preacher; and in 1852 he built a baptist church in Providence. He died May 2, 1862, in Providence, R.I. Davis, Peter Seifert, clergyman, author,
