He is the author of Nature and Time Physiology and in the Cure of Diseases; Pathology of the Sympathetic or Ganglionic Nervous System; Therapeutical Handbook of United States Pharmacopoeia; and TextBook of Therapeutics and Materia Medica. Edgar, Henry Cornelius, clergyman, author, was born April 11, 1811, in Eahway, N.J. He was a clergyman of the Dutch reformed church of Easton, Pa. in 1853-82. He was the author of Lectures on Slavery; Discourses on the Death of Lincoln; Curse of Canaan Rightly Interpreted; and Exposition of the Nine Last Wars. He died Dec. 23, 1884, in Easton, Pa. Edgar, James Clifton, physician, surgeon, author, was born June 14, 1859, in New York City; and has been professor of obstetrics at Cornell university. He is the author of The Practice of Obstetrics. Edgar, John Todd, clergyman, author, was born April 13, 1792, in Sussex county, Del. In 1833-60 he was pastor of the First presbyterian church in Nashville, Tenn. Since 1884 he has been manager and since 1886 editor of the Northwestern Miller of Minneapolis, Minn. In 1891 he organized the relief movement for famine stricken peasants of Russia; and superintended the collection, shipment and distribution of over five million pounds of flour. In 1903 he was promoted to the rank of colonel; and in 1905 to that of brigadier-general. Edgerton, Alfred P., journalist, jurist, congressman, was bom Jan. 11, 1813, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. In 1845 he was elected to the state senate of Ohio; and in 1848 was a delegate at large to the democratic national convention. In 1851-55 he was a representative from Ohio to the thirty- second and thirty-third congresses. In 1885 he was ap-
pointed United States civil service commissioner, and became the president of the commission. He died in 1897 in Ohio. Edgerton, Alonzo Jay, soldier, jurist. United States senator, was born June 7, 1827, in Rome, N.Y. During the civil war he served nearly five years In the union army; and was promoted to colonel brevetted and brigadier-general of the United States volunteers. News, at Denver, Col. Edgerton, Joseph Ketchum, lawyer, railroad president, congressman, was born Feb. 16, 1818, in Vorgennes, Vt. In 1855 he was president of the Fort Wayne and Chicago railroad company; and subsequently financial agent of the same when consolidated with the Pittsburg road. In 1863-65 he was a representative from Indiana to the thirtyeighth congress. He died in Indiana. Edgerton, Sydney, lawyer, jurist, congressman, governor, was born in 1818 in Cazenovia, M.Y. He was a prosecuting attorney for four years in Summit county. In 185963 he was a representative from Ohio to the thirty-sixth and thirty-seventh congresses. He was appointed a judge for the territory of Idaho; and in 1864-65 was governor of the territory of Montana. He died July
