Gobright, Lawrence Augustus, journalist, was born May 2, 1816, in Baltimore, Md. He for some years owned and edited the Washington Star. He was the author of Men and Things in Washington During the Third of a Century. He died May 32, 1879, in Washington, D.C. lecturer, author,

Godard, George Sejnnour, librarian, bibliographer, author, was born June 17, 1865, He prepared for college in Granby, Conn. at Wesleyan academy of Wilbraham, Mass.; in 1873 received the degree of B.A. from Wesleyan university of Middletown, Conn.; in 1893-94 studied at the Northwestern university of Evanston, 111.; and in 1895 received the degree of B.D. from Yale university of New Haven, Conn. He took up the profession of librarian. In 1890-98 he was librarian of the Cossitt library of Granby, Conn. In 1898-1900 he was assistant, and since 1900 librarian of the Connecticut state library. In 1904-05 he was president of the national association of state libraries; and in 1905-07 was president of the Connecticut library association. He is a member of the council of the American library association.

Godbey, Allen Howard, educator, clergyman, college president, author, was born Nov. 31, 1864, in Cooper county. Mo. In 3883 he graduated with the degree of A.M. from Morrisville college; and subsequently received the degree of Ph.D. from the university of Chicago. In 1883-95 he was engaged in teaching, journalism and authorship. In 1895-99 he filled pastorates. In 1899-1903 he was principal in the academic department of Central college of Fayette, Mo.; in 1903-05 was fellow of Semitics in the university of Chicago; and since 1906 has been president of Morrisville college of Missouri.

Goddard Calvin, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born July 17, 1768, in Shrewsbury, Mass. In 1790 he settled in Plainfield; and was elected a representative in the legislature for nine sessions, during three of which he was speaker of the house. He removed to Norwich in 1807; and in 3 801-05 he was a representative to the seventh and eighth congresses. In 1815-18 he was judge of the superior court. He was state's attorney for the county of New London for five years; and mayor of Norwich for seventeen years. He died May 3, 1843, in Norwich, Conn.
