He was a member of the Maine legislature; a presidential elector in 1840; and in 1849-51 he was a representative to the thirty-first congress. He died March 24, 1863, in Paris. Goodin, John R., lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born Dec. 14, 1836, in Tiffin, Ohio. In 1866 he was elected a representative in the Kansas state legislature. In 1867-75 he was judge of the seventh judicial district; and in 1875-77 he was a representative from Kansas to the forty-fourth congress.
Gooding, Frank R., farmer, governor, was born in England. In 1867 he came to the United States; and attended schools at Paw Paw, Mich. For many years he was a contractor for mining companies. During the past twenty years he has been extensively engaged in the stock and farming business; farming several thousand acres of land; and being one of the largest owners of sheep in the state of Idaho. He served as a member and chairman of the Idaho state senate; and for four years was a member of the republican state central committee. In 1905-09 he was governor of Idaho.
