OPPOSITION

BY opposition is meant the state of being opposite or opposed; a position, object, word, or thought confronting or opposing another; contrast; as,

Magnificent, indeed, was the material creation, when, suddenly blazing forth in mid-space, the new-born sun dispelled the darkness of the ancient night.
