PREFACE.
That it has been possible to compile this Index has been largely due to the generosity of Major Robert A. Wilson, D.S.O., of Bulls, who undertook the cost of preparing the MS. On receipt of this it was carefully checked and amended by the Assistant Secretary (Miss Wood), and then distributed to referees in each branch of science for final revision as to the arrangement of the matter. For this work the thanks of the Board of Governors of the Institute are due to Professors Kirk, Easterfield, Marsden, and Cotton, Dr. C. M. Hector, Messrs. Elsdon Best, W. R. B. Oliver, and J. C. Andersen.
This Index is supplementary to the Index of volumes 1–40 published in 1911. Like it, it deals only with the authors and titles of the various papers and abstracts, and it includes the eleven volumes 41–51. No attempt has been made to index the actual subject-matter: and, whilst the two present volumes serve well enough as an index of authors, it is recognized that there is urgent need for a complete subject-index of the whole of the volumes issued. It is hoped that the Institute may be in a position to undertake this before very long.
