for several days without a moment's sleep; without eating or drinking. He was exhausted. When he had reached the summit of the hill he had sat down there, almost involuntarily, for a few moments' rest; suddenly his head grew heavier and hung on his breast, his eyes closed, and he slowly dropped on the soft grass. It was not sleep, but a sort of stupor.
