The author, however, seems more than once to accept too readily generalities concerning barbarous and savage peoples, which more thorough research will perhaps demolish. Most interesting is the author's contention that, in " the funda- mental difference " between family and clan, " we can discover the sought-for antithesis between domesticity and sociality " (p. 395).
