landmark in the history of the country. It is the year of the accession of the House of Habsburg. The first attempts to transform the Bohemian monarchy from an elective to a hereditary one date from this time, and the reaction in favour of Rome begins at the same date. I shall in my next lecture treat of the historians of Bohemia from this period up to the year 1620, which for a time almost marks the extinction of the Bohemian nation.
