The Seven Penitential Psalms.
255

He hath made me to dwell in darkness as those that have been long dead: and my spirit is vexed within me; my heart within me is troubled.

I remembered the days of old, I meditated on all Thy works: I have mused upon the works of Thy hands.

I stretched forth my hands unto Thee: my soul gaspeth unto Thee, as a land where no water is.

Hear me speedily, O Lord; my spirit hath fainted away.

Turn not away Thy face from me: lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.

Make me to hear Thy mercy in the morning: for in Thee have I hoped.

Make me to know the way wherein I should walk: for to Thee have I lifted up my soul.

Deliver me from mine enemies, O Lord, unto Thee have I fled: teach me to do Thy will, for Thou art my God.

Thy good spirit shall lead me into the right land: for Thy name's sake, O Lord, Thou shalt quicken me in Thy justice.

Thou shalt bring my soul out of trouble: and in Thy mercy Thou shalt destroy mine enemies.

And Thou shalt destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am Thy servant.

Glory be to the Father, etc.

Ant. Remember not, O Lord, our offences, nor those of our parents; neither take Thou revenge of our sins.
