  1. This incident was characteristic of the man. His zeal for pure and undefiled religion was indeed great. He was sore vexed with the devisive courses which were prevalent in the so-called Christian church of the day, and as the byne was handy it was natural enough to suppose that this intermeddling defiler would be none the worse of a dock.—Ed.
