1. Memorize the following:

mae before; in front
atsumarimasu (atsumaru) fall in; assemble
ki wo tsukemasu (tsukeru) Pay attention
mukimasu (muku) face; turn
susumimasu (susumu) advance
tomarimasu (tomaru) stop; halt
yasumimasu (yasumu) rest
wakaremasu (wakareru) separate; leave

2. Military commands: In this chapter it is intended to introduce a few military commands for convenience in handling a group of prisoners of war.

Atsumare Fall in!
Ki wo tsuke Attention!
Bangō Count off!
Migi muke migi Right face!
Hidari muke hidari Left face!
Mae e susume Forward march!
Tomare Halt!

Japanese military imperative verbs end in -e (atsumare from atsumaru). As in military commands used in the United States, some have a preparatory command and a command of execution. Three of the abovementioned commands have both:
