Habitus. Frutices humiles, glabri. Folia alter na, fdi- formia, dichotoma, petioli basi dilatatd. Capitula globosa, parva, terminalia, racemosa, v. paniculata, involucro brevi v. nullo. Flosculi jlavi, glabri, unibracteati.
I have named this genus in honour of Dr. John Sims, the respectable editor of the ' Botanical Magazine.'

Char. Gen. Calyx tubulosus, ringens, lacinia suprema basi fornicata. Anther ce tres, inclusae, laterales dimidiatae, superior biloba: primo cohaerentes, lobis proximis vicina- rum loculum constituentibus. Stigma liberum. Nux ob- conica, papposa.
Habitus. Frutices. Folia sparsa, integerrima, plana, rariusve filiformia. Spicae axillares v. terminates, composite, se?isimjlorentes, hinc corymbosce. Flores solitarii, sessiles, unibracteati, albi v. ccerulescentes ; Calvce deciduo ; Bractea cucullatd persistenti.
Obs. Jussieu and Ventenat have referred this genus to the natural order Thymeleae ; but that it is a genuine Pro- teacea, as Dr. Smith has considered it, is proved by the erect embryo, the terminal style, and the aestivation of the Calyx ; and is rendered evident by its affinity to Simsia,
