The present plant, after various shiftings from one inap- propriate group to another, according to the wavering views of different botanists, is now placed in a new genus constituted for its reception by Mr. Brown, to whom the generic name has been suggested by the curious grapple or tendril belonging to the peduncle, by which the growing fruit is conveniently suspended on the nearest support, during its advance to maturity, and the slender flexile branch relieved from the disproportionate burden, which would be otherwise laid on the ground.
