And all the kittens and the cats

In country and in street,

Were very glad to send back word

That they'd be at the treat.

Pussy Cat Mew alone said "No;"

For our poor ancient friend

"Had not had time," she mewed, with tears,

"Her petticoat to mend!"

Said Puss in Boots, "Costumes are cheap,

And I will gladly pay

The price of one, rather than you,

Old friend, should stay away."

Now very busy are our friends

In making creams and cake;

And with the jellies and blanc mange

Kitty great pains must take
