But as Adam would not gratify his curiosity, he, to secure the art which he had invented in either case, inscribed his system of music upon two pillars, one of stone, the other of clay, the one being secure from fire, the other from water; and accordingly at this very day the stone pillar is remaining in the land called Sirida. The Ark and the Tabernacle were carried by Jeremiah to a stone cave in the mountain of Nob; where at his prayers the rock opened and closed upon these precious relics: and he fastened the entrance of the cave with a stone, and wrote upon the stone the holy Tetragrammaton with his finger; the letters, as he traced them, being miraculously imprinted in the stone. His companions wanted to make some mark whereby the place might be known, but as this was not the will of Heaven, they were rendered unable to find it again.
