He pulled and pulled and pulled, and what do you think he saw emerge from the water? Instead of a dead donkey he saw a live puppett, kicking and struggling, twisting and wriggling like an eel. Seeing the marionette the man thought he was dreaming, and he stood there amazed, with his mouth open and his eyes nearly popping out of his head. When at last he found words, he said,

"Where is the little donkey that I threw overboard?"
