AN ACROSTIC. FOR AN ALBUM.
Joyfully I court the Muse,
And wake for thee the votive lay;
Nor thou, dear maid, the boon refuse,
Entreating which my vows I pay.

  eemed, and honored, and beloved,
Let me, dear Jane, thy friendship claim;
Eager to have these lines approved,
And prizing naught like thy sweet name,—
No, not a word the tongue can frame,—
O, smile upon my simple lay!
Receive my vows this festive day.
